Nicola Dunsbee
Nicola Dunsbee is a young curator, writer, workshop leader and artist from Dover. She is interested in making space in the art world for marginalized identities. She has written about queer identities, feminism, mental health and chronic illness.
In 2018, she organized the programme of events for Folkestone’s successful International Women’s Day festival in 2019, and curated the accompanying exhibition ‘Arts of Rebellion, Acts of Liberation: An Exhibition of Women’s Art’. Prior to this, she helped to curate the exhibition of work from DAD’s FRESHART project.
Nicola has led creative writing, art and zine workshops with English Heritage at Walmer Castle, at The Courtauld Institute of Art’s Res|Fest, at Touchbase for International Women’s Day, and at IO Arts, History and Disability.
Nicola is also a poet, whose work documents explore the lived experience of young female trauma, and this body of poetry is often performed in feminist and queer events. She has been featured in the film ‘Count’ produced by Leah Thorn, which has been shown at film festivals across the world. Nicola is also a visual and musical artist who has participated in many Dover Arts Development events throughout the years.
One of her upcoming projects is ‘The FIVE WORDS Project’, which will see five cultural events take place at St Edmund’s Chapel in Dover. This promises to be a programme that sees the sacred space in a twenty-first-century light, intending to set up the chapel as a cultural venue for Dover.
