French student selected
We spent a wonderful few days in Arles at the Rencontres, Europe’s most popular annual photography festival, where we visited the AEENSP WIP exhibition of student work in the Saint Julien church subtly curated by artist Pierre-Yves Brest and ably assisted by the student association led by Marine Segond. While there we selected recent graduate Annabelle Amaros from the prestigious photography school in Arles (ENSP) to take part in the student exchange that has been brokered by DAD between UCA and ENSP with funding from EKCC and AEENSP. The selection panel included ourselves, Mike Marshall from UCA, Nikita Shergill, the UK exchange student, and Florence Maille from the École nationale supérieure de la photography d’Arles. We are looking forward to welcoming Annabelle to Dover for a 10 day residency at the end of September. We think the town will offer her plenty of opportunities to continue her research and develop her practice. As she said, “Dover lies between Arles and Helsinki“.
There will be an opportunity to view the work of Nikita and Annabelle in Folkestone as part of the curated Folkestone Fringe programme of the Folkestone Triennial from September 25th – October 6th.
