Opening of Samphire Hoe Shelter

On 28 November 2014 we were invited to the launch of the the new Samphire Hoe Education Shelter, officially opened by the Chairman of Dover District Council. The Shelter is the result of a collaboration between Eurotunnel, the Up on the Downs Landscape Partnership Scheme, and the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership.

When we arrived it looked as if the Shelter had always been there – fitting beautifully into its environment, cladded with recycled railway sleepers from the Eurotunnel terminal. It will be heated by wood burners using logs cut during expansion work at the terminal in Folkestone.

After the various speeches we were served a mug of delicious hot soup, just perfect for a cold day.

The Shelter is a fantastic resource for the district and will no doubt be a very popular venue for workshops, activities and exhibitions. Find out more
